How to Play & Winning

← Back

Goal

The first player to reach the target victory points (VP) wins instantly. The host picks 8 · 10 · 12 · 15 VP when creating a room (8 is the quick default, 10 is the classic length). Higher targets pair well with the unlimited pieces option. There are also Dokkaebi off (no robbing on 7 / General cards), bot difficulty (easy/normal/hard), and hidden VP cards options.

How to score

  • Settlement = 1 VP
  • City = 2 VP
  • 🛣️ Longest Road +2 — one player with the longest road of length 5+. It can be stolen by a longer road, or lost if an opponent’s settlement cuts yours.
  • ⚔️ Greatest Force +2 — one player who has played the most General cards (3+).
  • 🏆 VP card +1 — a development card type (see below).

The five resources

Tiles produce five resources used for building and trading.

  • Clay · Lumber — the basics for roads and settlements
  • Horsehair · Tangerine — also needed for settlements
  • Basalt · Tangerine — needed to upgrade to a city

Initial placement

At the start, players place 2 settlements with 2 attached roads in snake order (1→2→3→4→4→3→2→1). You collect starting resources from the tiles around your second settlement. Settlements must be at least one intersection apart.

Turn flow

  1. Roll the dice — buildings adjacent to tiles with the rolled number produce resources (settlement 1, city 2).
  2. On a 7 — the Dokkaebi phase begins (see below).
  3. Trade — exchange with the bank or a Naru harbor.
  4. Build — roads, settlements, cities.
  5. End turn — pass to the next player.

Build costs

BuildingCost
Road1 clay + 1 lumber
Settlement (+1 VP)1 clay + 1 lumber + 1 horsehair + 1 tangerine
City (+2 VP)2 tangerine + 3 basalt (upgrades a settlement)

7 and the Dokkaebi

  • When the dice total 7, everyone holding 8+ resource cards discards half (rounded down).
  • The roller moves the Dokkaebi to another tile. A tile with the Dokkaebi produces nothing.
  • The roller then steals one random resource card from one opponent adjacent to that tile.

Trading

Trading here is bank & Naru harbor only (no direct player-to-player deals).

  • Bank 4:1 — trade 4 identical resources for any 1.
  • Naru 3:1 — 3:1 with a settlement on any Naru harbor.
  • Specialty Naru 2:1 — 2:1 for that resource at its dedicated Naru.

Development cards

During your action phase, pay basalt + horsehair + tangerine to buy one development card (25-card deck). You may play one card per turn, and not on the turn you bought it (VP cards excepted).

  • ⚔️ General — move the Dokkaebi and steal a card. Play 3+ to claim Greatest Force (+2 VP).
  • 🛣️ Road Building — place 2 roads for free.
  • 🌾 Year of Plenty — take any 2 resources from the bank.
  • 🪙 Monopoly — name a resource and take all of it from every opponent.
  • 🏆 Victory Point — +1 VP instantly (counted automatically). Hidden from opponents by default, revealed at game end (the host can make them public).
